ABOUT TED AND TEDx
TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. TED is a not-for-profit organization.TED talks are committed to spreading powerful ideas presented in the three broad subject areas in addition to education, science and society that are collectively shaping the world with an intention to think differently, to feel something unique and to take action. The uniqueness of TED is the medium of expression. A day long TED event features speakers from different walks of life sharing their unique experiences and endeavors.
TEDx was created by TED which are independently-organized events held across the globe with a main aim to bring people together under TED’s mission statement of “ideas worth spreading.” TEDx can be seen as an opportunity to introduce an individual with a unique idea to the spirit and experience of TED. It’s an annual event that’s all about providing a platform with a difference to people for connecting, sharing their experiences and spreading ideas which otherwise would have gone unrecognized, hence inspiring people to transform themselves or change their lives, their futures and ultimately their world. The purpose of organising TEDx event is to inspire an equally diverse set of audience which would be a mix of the student fraternity, business professionals, entrepreneurs, etc. with different insights and aspirations.
TED and TEDx talks will be uploaded to ted.com as well as on YouTube, where the videos will be viewed by the people across the globe at a rate of 1.5 million times per day. The choice of the TEDx event will depend on the kind of organization that we represent.

TEDx RULES
The 100-Person Audience Cap (Crucial)
Unless you (the primary license holder) have personally attended an official, flagship TED Conference in person, your event audience is strictly limited to 100 people max.
Money, Profit, and Fundraising (Zero Exceptions)
- No Profit: TEDx events must be entirely not-for-profit. Ticket sales and sponsor money can only be used to cover operational costs (venue, production, food). Any leftover money must be saved for your next TEDx event; you cannot pocket it or absorb it into university funds.
- No Charity Fundraising: You cannot use a TEDx event to raise money for a charity, a cause, or a disaster relief fund—even if it aligns with your SDG theme.
- No Paid Speakers: You cannot pay your speakers a fee or honorarium. They must speak purely to share their idea. You can only cover their direct travel and lodging expenses.
Strict Content & Speaker Scrutiny
- No Selling from the Stage: Speakers are strictly forbidden from promoting their own books, companies, products, or consulting businesses. The talk must be about a universal idea, not a sales pitch.
- No Pseudoscience: TED heavily vets content. Every scientific claim made by a speaker must be backed by peer-reviewed, accepted research. No conspiracy theories, unproven medical wellness claims, or fringe science.
- No Political Agendas or Religious Proselytizing: Talks cannot have a partisan political angle or try to convert the audience to a spiritual or religious belief.
- The 18-Minute Rule: No talk can exceed 18 minutes. Keep a visible countdown timer on the stage floor for the speakers.
Stage Design & Branding Controls
- The Stage Logo: The only logo allowed on the stage is your official TEDx logo (e.g., TEDxAtria or TEDxAtriaUniversity). You cannot put corporate sponsor logos or even the main university logo on the stage backdrop.
- The Iconic Red Rug: You must have the circular red carpet on stage for the speaker to stand on.
- The Video Intro: Every single TEDx event must kick off by playing the official video introduction featuring TED's head curator (Chris Anderson).
Sponsor Restrictions
- No Editorial Influence: Sponsors can give you money or materials, but they have zero say over your theme, your speaker selection, or what the speakers say.
- Video Restrictions: You cannot feature rolling credits of sponsors or animated commercial clips in the final video edit. Sponsors can only be displayed on one single static slide at the very beginning or end of the video template provided by TED.
